The 2018 Toyota CH-R Launch Campaign Overview

In 2017, the all-new 2018 Toyota CH-R was about to launch and DSplus and Outsell were tasked to create awareness, encourage test drives and drive sales for 200+ participating Toyota dealerships across North America. For several months prior to the launch, each dealer sent teaser emails regarding CH-R in order to gather behavioral data and measure interest in the new 2018 model. The subsequent launch campaign consisted of three main elements. First, a targeted initial trigger email to spread awareness and send traffic to a second element – a custom Toyota CH-R microsite. Consumers were encouraged to schedule a test drive and browse local dealers’ inventory via the exclusive microsite. The third launch element was a targeted follow-up drip email to consumers who engaged in the initial email and microsite.

The overall goal was to drum up excitement, create new dialog with interested consumers and close the deal on a new Toyota CH-R. The results were impressive: more than 200,000 consumers interacted with the CH-R launch emails and microsite, moving thousands of CH-Rs off the lot for participating dealers, resulting in close to a million in sales. To view examples of the award-winning campaign emails and microsite, visit 2018 Toyota CH-R Launch Campaign. Outsell provided the technology behind the campaign, a marketing automation platform that increases customer engagement and drives more revenue by transforming how dealers engage with customers and prospects throughout their individual lifecycles.

“We are extremely pleased to see the Toyota CH-R launch campaign recognized with top honors and recognition from Interactive Media Council, Web Marketing Association and Digiday. I also want to acknowledge the teams at Outsell and DSplus that produced this amazing campaign and microsite,” said Michael Wethington, President and CEO, Outsell. “This well-executed campaign is a great example of how dealers can use integrated digital marketing to generate customer interaction and test drives which ultimately leads to an increase in sales.”

OUTSELL AND DSPLUS EARN FINALIST SPOT FOR DIGIDAY AWARD ‘MOST ORIGINAL EMAIL CAMPAIGN’ WITH 2018 TOYOTA C-HR LAUNCH CAMPAIGN

Toyota Campaign Finalist for Digiday Award

Outsell announced today that in partnership with DSPlus, the 2018 TOYOTA C-HR LAUNCH CAMPAIGN is a finalist in the Most Original Email Campaign category.

“I’m extremely proud of the creative teams from Outsell and DSplus that produced the 2018 TOYOTA C-HR LAUNCH CAMPAIGN with such success,” said Mike Wethington, CEO of Outsell. “I want to thank the Digiday judging committee for the acknowledgement, and both teams for their dedication to creating a truly powerful launch for Toyota.”

2018 Toyota C-HR Launch Campaign
The ride with many sides.

The all-new 2018 Toyota C-HR was poised to launch in a formidably competitive market where brand disloyalty was rife, with entry-level SUVS gnawing at the style space. 55% of the competition touted All-Wheel Drive, which the C-HR lacked. What it did deliver was a sleek silhouette with precision-cut lines, a cushy ride and agile handling—as well as edgy standouts such as hidden rear-door handles, available puddle lights and segment-leading standard safety.

Business Objectives

  • Drum up excitement and capture a considerable chunk of the entry-SUV market.
  • Woo young multicultural first-time buyers—and fold them into the Toyota
  • Emphasize the C-HR’s sharp styling, crisp handling and standard safety.
  • Offset the SUV’s lack of All-Wheel Drive with segment-leading standard safety firsts.

The Strategy

A cross-tier strategy was developed to offer marketing support for multiple TDAs and hundreds of dealers across the country.

Our target perceived themselves a stylish band of doers, ringleaders and trendsetters—much like this expressive SUV. So the creative strategy reached out to them in the evocative and universal language of Emojis—communicating versatility across varied contexts and cultures. Particularly relevant was the fact that Emojis taking center stage in pop culture as the future form of expression.

An engaging lead piece heralded the multifaceted ride, featuring an iconic medley of quirky characters that mirrored our multifaceted target. Every other layer of communication took the cue—and said it all with this unique emotional discriminator.

The Results:

  • 238 dealerships participated in this program
  • 6 Toyota Dealer Associations (TDAs)
  • 65 new C-HR Sales
  • $979,836 in revenue
  • 2,344 total new Toyota Sales
  • 195,254 opens by new & existing customers
  • 46,722 unique clicks on the C-HR microsite
  • 1,612 engagers looked to schedule a test drive
  • 496 intenders searched inventory

PCG Names Outsell a Top Marketing Solution for Automotive Dealers

Company wins 2018 AWA Marketing Solution Award at NADA

Outsell announced recently that it has won a coveted 2018 Automotive Website Award (AWA) in the Marketing Automation category. The awards were bestowed during a ceremony at the NADA 2018 conference, taking place on March 22 in Las Vegas.

The Automotive Website Awards, created by PCG Companies, showcase the top marketing solutions for automotive dealers across several categories. This is the second consecutive year that Outsell has been honored. The company’s new Inventory Mover solution, which helps automatically match prospects with specific inventory, was cited as a key reason for its being named a winner for 2018.

Outsell was the first marketing automation provider in automotive to utilize artificial intelligence (AI) to help improve relevancy and targeting. Its AI brain tracks the behavior of individual consumers (both customers and prospects), forming a predictive model of their future behavior, and fueling Outsell capabilities such as buyer detection for identifying in-market shoppers, and Inventory Mover.

At NADA, Outsell launched its newest platform, Outsell 5.0 [link], enhanced with even more artificial intelligence capabilities, providing automotive dealers with unprecedented insight into buying behavior and the ability to take individualized content to the next level, with automated, multi-channel communications that are customized to each person’s exact preferences.

“Dealers now expect AI features in their marketing automation platforms, and Outsell offers the first such platform that enables dealers to cover both customers and prospects at once,” said Brian Pasch, CEO of PCG Companies. “It’s no longer necessary for dealers to have different tools for each audience – it’s a major step forward.”

“We are thrilled to have been recognized by PCG Companies as a top marketing solution for the second year in a row,” said Mike Wethington, Outsell’s founder and CEO. “We believe that Outsell’s AI-driven approach to helping automotive dealers sell smarter represents the future of consumer marketing.”

Outsell Delivers What Dealers Want at #NADA100

#NADA100 was an event to remember for Outsell

Outsell attended the New Orleans convention with a brand new booth to greet dealers and received remarkable reception on the design. Several convention-goers stopped by just so they could take photos of the booth.

We couldn’t be more pleased with how the booth represents Outsell and how we engage customers, being inviting from all sides for continual traffic that helped build some fantastic relationships for the new year.

It was especially rewarding to have dealers and other vendors come up to us, remembering when we were a smaller presence with a more subdued booth along the back wall, and remark on how clear it is that we’ve grown as a successful solution for dealers and have become a major player in their digital marketing efforts.

We convened our first-ever Customer Advisory Board (CAB) the Thursday of the convention to start the event on a high note, gaining great feedback on the Outsell platform, guidance on product direction, and how we can better serve our clients.

One CAB participant, Kristy Elliott, Executive Manager at Sunshine Chevrolet, said:

“The Outsell platform has become an integral part of our overall marketing process. I welcomed the opportunity to participate in Outsell’s Customer Advisory Board, because it gives me a chance to network with peers from other dealerships, and to have an impact on Outsell’s product direction.”

NADA continued to be a win for Outsell when we were announced as a top marketing solution for auto dealers at the Automotive Website Awards, created by PCG Companies. The AWAs provide car dealers with an independent review of automotive technology, and we were honored to be counted among the select few recognized.

“Winning products in the marketing solutions category are those that we believe can help dealers to sell more cars in a digital age, as they are designed to increase the sales opportunities that dealers can have with in-market shoppers,” said Brian Pasch, Founder, PCG Companies.

We’ve also seen some great momentum surrounding the new features and products launched at NADA.

Outsell Social Ads integrates with a dealer’s campaigns to:

  • Reach the unreachable in their database
  • Keep active shoppers engaged
  • Acquire and engage net-new prospects
  • Entice lapsed service customers back to their service bays

Additionally, Outsell launched:

  • Single Consumer View: for dealers to view everything they know about a customer in one place including current vehicle, service and sales history, and engagement with past marketing campaigns.
  • Automated Review Solicitation: giving dealers the ability to automatically request reviews from customers and guide them through the process of posting those reviews.
  • CDK Integration: as a CDK integration partner working toward certification to ensure quick, simple and secure connections and data sharing.

“All these new enhancements are designed to help simplify the process of engaging consumers across channels and individualizing offers and content for auto dealers’ customers, including reaching customers via their preferred channel,” said Bryan Harwood, Outsell’s CTO.

It was an exciting way to kick off 2017 and we are carrying the momentum from the show throughout the organization.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by the booth! We hope you enjoyed learning more about Outsell and how automating your marketing efforts utilizing technology featuring artificial intelligence increases consumer engagement.

We’re also happy to see that our Outsell branded socks were a huge hit. We’re a fan of them too.

2015 Toyota Camry Launch
Outsell and DSplus developed an integrated media campaign to help Toyota dealers sell down the 2014 Camry inventory before the 2015 models arrived on dealer lots. The campaign kicked off by connecting to 207 dealer databases nationwide to send dealer-branded campaigns via email, which led them to a microsite, using sophisticated data-driven behavioral targeting in order to find potential Camry buyers.

Each phase, from sell-down to post-launch, generated unprecedented level of consumer engagement. 150,000 people nationwide interacted with the campaign, and 11,600 of these people clicked to “Schedule Test Drive.” Most importantly, consumers who interacted with this campaign generated approximately $21,277,537 in Camry sales revenue for participating dealers.*

To view examples of the award-winning campaign, please visit: http://www.outsellauto.com/files/saatchi/CamryAward2015/

*To calculate linked sales revenue, we looked at individuals who interacted with the campaign and subsequently purchased a new Toyota Camry from a participating dealer. Revenue was calculated based on price paid to dealers for each Camry sale.
