Feed My Starving Children
Outsell Caring Committee Continues Community Involvement
In November The Outsell Caring Committee held our First Annual Outsell Food Drive for the Joyce Uptown Food Shelf, a team-oriented employee event discussed in a previous blog entry here.
Jon Petron, Strategic Alliance Manager and member of the Caring Committee, headed the winning team, bringing in the most food and household items. They were awarded $1000 to donate to their charity of choice, the Feed My Starving Children organization.
Barb Shimshock, Development Advisor and Monthly Giving Specialist for the organization stopped by our offices to explain more about the program and accept our donation.
The organization was founded in 1987 by a Minnesota businessman inspired after a humanitarian trip to Honduras. With the help of food scientist from General Mills and Cargill, Feed My Starving Children packages and ships specifically designed food to assist in the growth and development of children in 67 underprivileged countries, providing assistance most frequently to Haiti. Their head offices are located in Coon Rapids, MN, with additional offices in Minnesota, Illinois, and Arizona.
To distribute the packaged meals, Feed My Starving Children is partnered with several global distribution nonprofits and missionaries such as Salesian Missions, Love A Child, Cross International, Samaritans International, and World in Need.
Volunteers package food every Monday through Saturday throughout the day, and can be in such over-abundance that contributing people and organizations sometimes need to schedule a packaging time months in advance. Individuals, couples, and groups can volunteer, as well as groups from companies and other organizations like Outsell, often as a team-building exercise.
At Outsell we look forward to future opportunities working with the Feed My Starving Children program. Please take the time to check out more information about the organization as well as Outsell’s other charitable groups.
