A new poll undertaken for AdWeek Magazine by Outsell LLC also reveals that 74% of consumers are interested in buying a car online if it can be delivered to their home for a test drive.

The new poll analyzes consumer attitudes to automotive dealers, manufacturers and 3rd party sites. The study also examined consumer preferences for online car buying versus traditional purchasing from physical dealer locations.
"While consumers are generally satisfied with the traditional auto dealership distribution model, there is an emerging demand for online car shopping," said Mike Wethington, CEO of Outsell LLC. "While online shopping is convenient, the option of also having a physical store to visit when the need arises is attractive to many car buyers."
The latest poll revealed that:
- 72% of consumers are satisfied with the current car purchasing options available to them, though consumers also suggest that the internal workings of the dealer model required significant improvement.
- 74% of consumers are interested in shopping for a vehicle completely online if it could be delivered to their home for a test drive, while 36% of consumers expressed an interest in buying a car completely online without ever visiting a physical store.
- 62.1% of consumers stated a preference for fixed, no haggle pricing on vehicles.
The survey data indicates mixed feelings about visiting a physical dealership. While 72% of Americans say that they are comfortable with the current dealership model, there is also a demand for online comparison shopping, to which consumers are increasingly becoming accustomed.
